Today our scholarship holder Juliet Mung'asia announces her successful graduation!

It has taken me a while to write this because I really lack words to describe how happy I am, I graduated on 10th of December with a Diploma in technical Education trainer course, this would not have been a success without your help and sacrifice.

I am so grateful, attached are pictures of the day. The certificate is not yet out and that will take a while, once I get it I'll definitely send it to you.

I would wish to take this opportunity to thank you for the chance you gave me. You have supported me fully during this period and this i can not take it for granted.

My wish at this moment is to get a job so as to fulfill my desire of mentoring young people through teaching and supporting them in any way I can,
I would also wish to do my masters degree if I get the opportunity to do so.
Once again I would wish to say thank you to the team of BfE. May God bless You.

We recently spoke with our scholarship recipient Elias Shamala Muhatia about his current scholarship:

This is to express my gratitude to Elimu Inayokuza Maendeleo through Dr. Michael Nebe for the immense support he provided during my Master program in Project Monitoring and Evaluation at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. I started the program in 2019 and experienced significant delays because of the COVID-19 pandemic and poor processes in the university. However, through consistent encouragement from Dr. Michael Nebe, I have been able to complete successfully and published my first journal article. I have also been confirmed for graduation happening on 29th Nov. 2024.

You can read more on my research article here.

With my background in Statistics, I made a decision to start a second Master program in Data Science and Analytics at Strathmore University which is progressing well. My plan is to pursue Data Science to the PhD level. I made this decision after contemplating that a combination of Data Science and Monitoring & Evaluation will make me more suitable in the job market.

The Data Science Program at Strathmore University is relatively expensive but I am glad that I have been managing well to pay for it.

Even though I have not interacted at personal level with the new management of Elimu Inayokuza Maendeleo, I remain grateful for the support I received from the Foundation.

Once I get my finances in order, I am more than willing to subscribe back to the foundation to support other young people.

Thank you for your commitment and dedication to this service!

We recently spoke with our scholarship recipient Rajab Kibe Hassan about his current scholarship:

BfE: Hello Rajab, you have been a scholarship holder at Bildung fördert Entwicklung e.V. for some time now and are studying Construction Management. Can you tell us something about your current situation?

Rajab: First of all, I would like to say that I am very grateful to the association for its ongoing support. It is not easy for me to deal with the hardships of life here, but your support makes it much easier for me. I am glad that you are covering the rent for my small room and the tuition fees.
Unfortunately, education in Kenya has become significantly more expensive, especially the fees for master's programs have doubled. My university is also inadequately equipped, for example, there are far too few computers in the library.

BfE: Has this situation also contributed to the unrest among Generation Z, which the media is also reporting on in Germany?

Rajab: Yes, exactly. Even though the new tax laws were initially repealed, the cost of food, public transport and healthcare has increased dramatically, making it very difficult for many families to provide for basic needs. This is true for me too. Many students do not have the funds to pay for books, tuition fees and other necessary equipment, so many of my fellow students have taken part in peaceful protests, which have been met with a harsh response from the government.

BfE: How do you see your future in these difficult times?

Rajab: During the protests we received a lot of solidarity from people who support our goals, which gives me courage. In addition, the support of donors from Germany enables me to continue with my education. I don't just mean this in a financial sense, it is also important to be encouraged and to hold on to the hope for better prospects in the future. Knowing that there are people who believe in my potential and are actively committed to my success is a great confirmation that I should not lose sight of my goals.
